Have a great looking piece of Spotted Gum which was destined to be a box lid. Since being cut to size it has cupped 3.5 mm over a width of 210mm. Can this be redeemed and if so how. Any and all advice appreciated. Brian.

How was it stored? If you put it cupped side down in the sun (not that there is much sun today) it may flatten out again. Was the last cut a resaw or plane down to final thickness?
:whs:
Timber will tend to cup away from whatever surface it's sitting on; a little bit of water on the cupped side can help as well, but you can send it too far the other way so it's a bit of a guessing game.
At my old work we'd sometimes de-cup whole table tops by wetting the cupped side and leaving it on the ground over night.
Hi Alkahestic, the piece has been stored flat on shelf for about 5 months. It was cut from a longer length just a short while after I got it and was finish machined just needing a light sanding. The rest of the original length has been used without any problems. Thanks for the reply. Brian.
Hi Elanjacobs, Thanks for your reply, will try the water treatment and if no success will probably finish it life a firewood. Thanks again. Brian.
