Hi All,
Attached are a few images of a jewellery box I was asked to make for my mates daughters 21st birthday. She is no 22..... https://d1r5wj36adg1sk.cloudfront.ne.../sad/shock.gif.
Yes, it took me a while, but free time is a precious commodity these days and he did say there was no rush.
The main body of the box is made from Myall, which came off her grandparents property in NSW who passed away recently, so the box will have some sentimental value for her which is nice. The insert in the lid is Budgeroo, the splines and lid lift are Queen Ebony and the trays are Jacaranda.
There were a few nervous moments in making this box especially when I dropped it on concrete while in the sanding process. First time fitting the 6mm neat/smart hinge so need more practise on those, but I did enjoy the challenge of making it. Like anything, the more you do the easier it becomes.
The box is finished with 3 coat of Kunos Oil, which I'm very impressed with as it made the colors and grain of the Myall really pop. Will be using this finish a lot more on articles I make in the future, its easy to apply and gives a real natural look and feel to the timber.
As always, all comments are welcome as I want to improve my skills and techniques.
Regards,
Nev.
