Chain with a hook on it won't do?.
That is what I have been doing but a loghook or tongs is quicker. I might try to make some. What sort of iron or steel do I want to use?
I made a 44 gal'drum lifter many years ago. Scissor style out of 100mm x 12mm mild steel flat bar. I imagine your logs are going to be heaps heavier than a 44 though?
Cheers,
Geoff.
Heres' a pic of some cant hooks I made about 12 years ago.
The longer one is 48" long and the smaller one is about 38" long.
I just use half inch mild steel plate for the hooks.

AB1 asked for some photos, so here you go mate. I haven't used it for years and had to hunt out a "D" shackle to show how it connected to the lifting chains. The company I contracted to banned me from using it on all of its sites in the late 90's because of not being "commercially" made, hooks don't have safety latches.
I've not tried snigging a log with it, might have to add teeth for grip.
Cheers,
Geoff.
Thanks I managed to get a pair from Amazon Prime so not charged for postage from USA. About $70 dollars delivered.
