Lid insert from offcuts

Hi all, I've had a couple of ring holders laying about for a few years that I originally bought on ebay. I dont use these type anymore and wanted them gone. So decided to make a couple of boxes for them. I seen this idea somewhere on youtube, making a lid insert from offcuts. Involves a lot of glueing and clamping, but the end result is very effective. For the hinges I used a 6mm brass tube with a 3mm brass rod inside it. I made the box before I installed the hinges. There is a small .5mm brass washer there also , used as a spacer. All sides and lid are 11mm thick. The boxes are made from Spotted Gum and Queensland Maple (two boxes). Paul (my enter key and backspace key don't work, I've ordered a new keypad for my laptop, all I need to do when it arrives is work out how to install it)…...

I like them. I assume the insert is sitting in a small dado?

Your keyboard is likely just a thin connector. Easy once you get to it. Getting to it is often the challenge. Some designs require you to pull everything out of the casing to get to the keyboard. Keep your screws sorted. Good luck.

Thank Opy and yes, the insert is sitting in a trench/dado, which I cut on my table saw. Then I tidy the insert up with a panel raising bit in my router table, just to give it that nice roundness.

Every youtube video I look at on installing a keyboard into a HP laptop is a bit different. Goes from rather simple to just about taking everything out. It still hasnt arrived yet.

No big purchases this year. Biggest investment was a Cabitool router bit for forming the raised panels for box lids. I did purchase some sheets of Black Walnut veneer which I want to have a go at after seeing what some people here can do with veneer. Just a few other incidentals but mainly had a good time looking around enjoying the ambiance.
