Another I can't remove the bit thread
Today I had trouble removing a bit from my Festool OF 1400 router. For some reason the green ratchet button would not press for me to undo the bit.
I could and did get the bit out using two spanners but why could I not use the green undo ratchet feature?
The answer is quite simple, but until I worked it out I did not know why. Some background. The router was bought second hand and was in a bit rough condition when I received it. Some parts were missing or damaged, so have been replaced. I even bought an 8mm collet and spanner for it. (Router came with 22mm spanner, 8mm collet requires 24mm spanner). Of coarse there were no instructions, and I have not bothered to try and obtain any either. For the first time today I inverted the router in a table and locked the switch on using the switch on the dust extractor to operate the router. This is the cause of the problem. With the switch locked on (or just pressed on) the green undo ratchet will not work. You need to release the switch first. I guess it is a form of safety device.
While I am sure many of you know about this feature, if this thread helps one other person then it is worth it.
PS yes I know that when you start to undo the collet, you need to undo it further to release the bit.

From memory it doesn’t work if the power button is depressed
Whoops I did not read the entire post
