The Art of filling and a Mitre Plane.
The art of filling and a Mitre Plane.
For quite sometime, well actually years, possibly even a decade, but you know who’s counting.
I’ve wanted to dip my fingers in to some infill plane making.
An besides a decade in earth time’s really not that long, plus I’ve been busy ok.
So, with the world in a slightly messed up stage of civilisation, while I watch the crazies, the know all’s, and the ones with the salvation to even lift me to a higher ground, and now being basically house bound in my father in laws weather board palace in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne infectious town.
I’ve decided and all by myself , with out any influence from fake news, that now is as good as anytime to have a bash at combing some mild steel, lovely material, some brass o it files beautiful, and some yet to arrive , because I haven’t found any yet, very exotic, but not to be confused with erotic timber.
So , using only the basic of tools following on in a long standing tradition of bloody hell , if I only had this and that, and one of those would be so welcomed now.
And o I can’t use those words here .
I made a start the other day.
Well a little background information for the I must know everything party.
I had been seriously planning this little mitre Plane for well over a few months while the world got messed up.
Mild steel was obtained from a left over piece of 100 mm box section from my brothers home extension about 4 mm thickish.
5 mm thick , 260 cartridge Brass was brought from George White & Co Melbourne,
A lovely piece of 01 Tool steel was donated by Bob in Perth(Thanks Bob).
A cheap crappy vernear gauge was brought from a green shed when Karen wasn’t present, plus and equally crappy triangle file,
And a item that resembles a small engineers ball pein hammer for doing some smashing stuff later with.
Some paper I had on hand ,plus pencils to draw up multiple plans(One to date)plus I was able to find a compass for setting out the bed angle more on that later.
Ready ,set ,go
So after all that ,your probably really excited to see some progress ain’t ya??

(Yes there parallel I’m learning to really file)
Well I’m pretty excited about my progress so far, and remember we live in times now were ever child is encouraged know matter how hopeless they are.
So in a small crunched up nut shell , I’ve pre paired my stock [emoji3064][emoji3064].
Pretty cool a
Some numbers for those that are a bit anal attentive.
Sole length too be 160 mm ish .
Width to be about 38 mm ish .
Height to be 30 mm ,plus or minus one micron.
01 Tool steel iron 25/4 mm length to be confirmed at a later business meeting with me , myself and I ,closed meeting.
Bed angle to be 20 degrees.
Stay tuned.
Tomorrow maybe cutting the mouth!!!???
Cheers Matt.
