New Coffee Table
Her Indoors started matters by proclaiming that we needed another coffee table, just like the one I made 3-4 years ago.
Here is a pic of the table I need to reproduce.

First I needed to source some Camphor Laurel. This timber was once relatively inexpensive, but no more, and good quality timber that does not need a bunch of resin to repair faults can be difficult to find.

The first job was to cut the legs on the bandsaw, and to rough sand them on the linisher and the spindle sander. Then they were finished sanded using a block with a soft rubber face.

Then the frame was cut, sanded and fixed to the legs with floating tenons.
Attachment 482533
The top was a two inch piece of timber that was re-sawn and book leafed before being edge glued. I do love these clamps. The jobs come out of them flat.

Here it is, finished except for lacquer.
Attachment 482535
I am about to make another occasional table and will wait 'till they are both finished so they can be lacquered together.

That is very nicely done John. Look forward to seeing the finished piece.

That's got to be the Kim Kardashian-West of coffee tables!

Thanks guys.
On Monday I'll likely start the occasional table. The final decision is not yet made, but considering a sliding top rather than a drawer, as noted in this link which shows a craft cabinet I made my sister six or seven years ago. Craft Cabinet WIP

The legs for the new occasional/side table were cut on the bandsaw at the same time as the legs for the little coffee table. All they needed was finish sanding.

Then the carcass was made. It's a box with a base, which is a lump of MDF trimmed with 50 mm wide timber which was then routed to match the little coffee tables. MDF was chosen for the base so there would be no wood movement issues. It's also cheap. All joinery is floating tenons.

The small occasional table built to hold remotes and etc is now finished.
It has a sliding top instead of a drawer. Having built two such cabinets, one with soft close runners and one with push to open runners, I can confirm that the push to open variety works better, despite requiring a little more fiddling.
As you can see from the first shot, I know how to earn my Brownie points!
