meter repositioning advice from plumber

HI all,

WA watercorp are upgrading the mains water pipes in our suburb (Melville). They have informed households that if you want to relocate your meter to apply and it would be free as they will be doing work anyway.
We purchased an old home, demolished and as a result the home is now some +500cm higher on that side of the property. When it comes to now landscaping the meter will be literally a mile down so I want to make it easy for everyone.

So I have two questions:

1. Water corp said that before they do any work the plumber needs to first make the adjustments at the property end. how will they do that so that I can still have water until water corp do their bit.

2 After the repositioning then can I connect something to the then old outlet - such as a tap. (The old plumbers elbow)

500cm that's 5m or 16.5ft ?

could be
16 feet would also equate with the OP's "mile down" comment.


what I suggest is that the OP's plumber establish a new water inlet at the most appropriate level and once the WA Water Corp have done their bit and connected to the new "inlet" have the plumber blank off the original inlet with a suitable plug.

That's not very deep, My guess is they will just add an elbowed extension to bring the meter above the ground.

We had the opposite with the mains gas
ie landscaped and the mains gas line inside property to the gas meter ended up about level with the ground - should be 600mm below the ground.

Get your plumber to do everything on the house and up to where the new meter will be, Then run a temporary (even "pressure PVC" will do) pipe to old meter.
Then call the water authority and they will bring the meter up to the right height.

They way they do it there wont be anything to attach it to.

So: The plumber would unscrew unscrew this part (A) add the riser to that, then add an appropriate joiner to the top end where the new level would be.

Then when the water corp come, they will remove it from (B) attach it to the new height. I would assume then they would close B off.

Can I then run a pipe out of the vacant (B) for a tap.

My guess is that the plumber will completely remove A/B and replace that will an upward facing elbow and temporarily connect a short length of pipe to that that comes out at the new ground level.

Then the WA will remove old meter/elbow and short length of pipe and replace that with the new meter.

You can always ask your plumber to add a female threaded T piece on your side of the new meter for another tap.
