That 2nd one has fantastic "figure" I guess you call it. I think it would be nicer just as a turn out tradition bowl like the first.
Top and bottom of same piece.
my mistake, I actually looked "closely" and didn't pick it was just one bowl.................I'm old :C
And some more. Attachment 490258
Just a question, I've been using Danish oil on these ( my WOP has turned to jello) but after a few coats it's still a flat finish, I'd like a bit more gloss. So, do I just persevere with the DO or is there something I can put over it, wax ? shellawax ? Glow ? Thanks in advance :) Phil.
Thanks Mate, I'll persevere.
Nice work Pommy Phil.
What sort of size are these bowls?.
The red one is 160mm X 45mm I started on the small ones and will work up as I learn. Very sharp scrapers are the go.
And to think that mallee was about all that we burnt as firewood here for many years, including countless burls.
The local firewood yard stills sells mallee stumps/roots, which will yield some nice pieces if you can tolerate all the sand in them that chews up HSS. TC tips fair slightly better until most of the sandy pockets are gone.
Mallee Stumps
BTW, brown mallee is not a tree species, it just describes the colour of the wood in some of the approx 30 species of mallee.
