Thanks Lance, yes wonderful weather. Off to Strahan tomorrow and a train ride and trip up the Gordon river over the next few days.
Cal, from memory I think there is a turner on the wharf at Strahan that sells timber.
When I was in Strahan about 12 months ago there was a guy selling Huon Pine from his front yard at good prices. Pretty sure he was in Jones St, right hand side heading North. As Potts has noted there are also timber sales at the wharf in Strahan, the turning shop is well worth a look.
Also picked up a couple of small Blackwood logs off the side of the road from a fallen tree just South of Stanley on the way to the Big Tree. The tree had fallen on to the road so had been conveniently cut into some smaller logs. Wish I had a truck and some chains and lifting gear with me. The car was dragging its bum on the road on the way home. :D
Thanks Potts, yes I’m aware of him. Will check it out when I get there!
Aldav, thank you. Will see if I can track him down :)
Lovely figure and spalt in the Sassafras Cal
The King Billy I'm assuming is your neck stock
Perfectly straight grain and bang on the quarter
Very 'easy on the eye' I must say!:q
Thanks for sharing
Mr Fiddleback :)
Thanks Mr. Fiddleback, the King Billy is for bracing. I have three really nice sets of King Billy soundboards that it will go nicely with it.
Sitting in Strahan at the moment, had a great day on the train and ohh the wonderful timber that grows here. Leatherwood, Sassafras, Myrtle, Blackwood and Huon were part of the highlights of the trip.

Will type up a little journal of the trip and add some pictures later on :) off on the boat up the Gordon tomorrow!!
There wasn't a day like that when I was last in Strahan. Mist and light rain were the order of the day, I guess they need to keep those trees growing. :D
