Hi Tom,
If you don't already have a welding trade or some AS 1796 certs behind you I would say theres at least several years of practice, study and tests ahead of you.

With work commitments I took this long to achieve a WTIA Welding Inspectors Certificate. The international welding specialist certificate has come in being since I gained my Inspectors certificate I have no knowledge of it. I do suspect you will need to have an inspectors certificate to gain the international one. Also I would imagine that a very good knowledge of international welding practices ,process,cultures and international welding codes will be a minimum. That sounds like years of study and practice to me.

As the previous contributor has stated , ring up the WTIA, but be advised these guys are the real deal and will charge substantial money to gain the certificates ,so one should be well organised and prepared before shelling out any dollars.

As a bare minimum ( if you currently have few or no skills) one needs to be involved in the trade preferably as an operator and join branch of the WTIA.You will find them very helpful as a member particularly with a reduction for members in fees for services that they charge.

My present situation is that I have 10 years working experience for welding, 3years in construction field ( nuclear power plant project), 7years in automotive industry ( robot welding). I have attained IWE and IWI-C in China. At present, I am working for a small engineering company as a welding robot operator at Morrabbin suburb. I don't know how to do next step? Many thanks for your advices!!!

You first step is definitely the WTIA. The good thing is that after a while you get in the network and that is very helpful in itself.
You certainly will slot in well above welding operator certificate level .i have been away from it for far too long I think and probably a whole lot has changed.
