Thanks China, I figured they weren't the original brackets but I did have the bed together (somehow) with these brackets. I'll try dowels as Chief Tiff suggests. Thanks for replying.

Never thought of some dowels, yes the large holes...
Never thought of some dowels, yes the large holes are smooth sided. Thanks yes I also have some other screws to attach the brackets to legs but it didnt seem enough, guess I'll have to acquire more....
