Hi. I use a program called "rhino" to create 3d objects for manufacturing.
Of all the CAD programs i have used this is by far the easiest to use.
Although its designed for object modelling i think...

i often take a photo of something from various angles trace the outlines in Photoshop, reize it to fit, print,and paste onto the wood. I also sketch and do the same. Its also a good way to do...
