its very likely your charger will cope, most chargers will accept a decent range of batteries. my bosch is ok with 12-18v. as for the drill, i imagine it will just run slower

id like to see a slice horizontally, so you can see the branches splaying out. mind you, youll only get one good slice out of it. less risk of radial cracks that way too.

dont sand it and add another layer, at least yet. get a buffing wheel and some polishing compound. treat it just like a car. buff the scratches out. you might be able to reduce them to a bearable...
