Game plan to make them in multiples(wide lumber) and rip to width on table saw. However I want the steps (Not the tread) to be at about 30º ,with the tread at 90º. I have made them with a 90º bit...

YES! At least all the way thru the collet. Never...
YES! At least all the way thru the collet. Never bottom them out. It will ruin the collet! Put a small piece of 1/2" foam cut with a hole punch in collet then you will never bottom one out. Too much...
