Would the treating process kill the natural smell of the cut timber. Whenever I planed over a knot or a sappy bit there was a strong menthol type scent.

Another recent suggestion was pressure treated yellow pine

It does look a fair bit like the blue pine, but is there a native species with similar characteristics?

Apart from the weight, which won't be an issue as it's getting extensively chambered, it seems to be a nice guitar wood. Just be nice to know what it is. I've got enough of it to make a run of...

Or a bass haha. It's around 47mm thickness, the planed pieces are around 45 now. When tapped it's pretty bright, not maple bright but getting there, nicely resonant and a consistent the When tapped...

@tcj, not major that I don't know what it is, but being for a guitar, if it sounds rubbish, I'll know to steer clear from it, or vice versa.

Or it was suggested that the colouration may be due to the minerals and coal dust staining the wood

Having a look at qld wood species, it looks a bit similar to spotted gum also.

Artme, it's from a mine near Moranbah, a few hours west of Mackay. Yeah its a lot harder, denser and heavier than the bunnings pine I've used in the past, and smells...

It's pretty hard, a lot harder than say bunnings pine. The pieces where you can see the center of the tree weigh a tonne, where the parts towards the outer are no heavier than a good mahogany. As...

Thanks mate. It's from the roof supports I'm underground mining, been down a shaft for the last 30 years. I spoke to a guy recently who said they use red oak now, but I'm not certain this is oak.
