Myrtle, going by photos on the web is a bit darker than this.
I'd say this is a light coloured wood that has been sprayed in a factory and the finish has yellowed.

going by pictures on the web of wood, it appeared to be hard maple to me.

I'm just trying to confirm things before I buy some wood.

Hard maple here is the same price as walnut.
