Can't see why that wouldn't work, there's plenty of wood for the glue to hold onto. Go ahead and give it a try.

Make a zero clearance insert for the table saw and use the masking tape. This should produce the desired result.

Stick a bit of masking tape on the wood and use any marker that pleases you.
When done remove the tape.
