Thanks Peter. Support at Xylotex also confirmed I'd tuned the controller to match the motor correctly so it's just going to run hot.. we'll see how it goes.

With the G540 you've the ability to run 4...
With the G540 you've the ability to run 4 steppers. I'd use 2 ballscrews X axis with a width of 1000mm. This worked good for me. I'm in Geelong if you want to have a look at my machine.

I've a few 3 inch 1/8 BN 2FL and 4FL bits. Also...
I've a few 3 inch 1/8 BN 2FL and 4FL bits. Also some 3 inch 1/4 2FL bits. They come in handy for doing this type of milling.
