Because the engine block has many cavities and odd shaped sections, I doubt the electrolosis method would be very effective . It's likely to be covered in oil or muck too which doesn't help .

Will give it a try on the Sheraton and see how it performs. The insert in it has a sharp edge , unlike many of the carbide inserts which are blunt .

Kennametal holder
This holder came in a box of bits. The holder STGCR 1010 has a positive rake seat for the carbide bit . it is a 10mm holder . Is that CCMT bit in there ? The holder looks ideal for a small hobby lathe

Update
Well, no luck so far , the back plate is still firmly stuck . I have heated / cooled the back plate repeatedly and added more weight to the lever .
Next idea is to buy some dry ice and shove it... -
