ive used laminex's wenge before and it is really really hard to cut it with out it splintering, make sure you use a really good blade, like the Flai "U" blade, also it takes a while to sand, but...

really nice, i had a chance to make a pen a the hands on expo last weekend, i just used a piece of pine for it but i saw some of the acrylic pens there and i thought some of the colours were amazing.
