I think that the colour is actually a case of shiney metal under some odd lighting with bad colour calibration, etc. That lathe is just bare metal and form ground.

I think that the compound might be the correct one for your lathe. It is like the 608 compound, but then so was the one on the 715. You have probably had a look at tony's site about this.... -

Probably the most "desirable" Rivett lathe is a pre-war 1020. I believe only 4 are known to exist. They were equipped with a dog clutch. -

That's the one with the dog clutch.
I don't believe that the later 1020's had that feature.

Probably beech....
To make it stable, it is often steamed, which turns it pink. Unsteamed it is white, but can warp and twist without warning, hence the steaming. -
