just a bit of a update this trailer has just done a adelaide to perth and back in the last couple of weeks loaded with a car each way . still very happy with the way it tows and the way the tilt...

havent been on the pc much yes i use the lincon 180c welder and i love it the thickest part of the trailer is 10 mm thats the brackets for the pivot points and the drawbar...

spend a little extra and get a better machine the lincon 180c can be had for around the $850.00 mark . there a top unit ive built 2 car trailers with mine so far and about to start a 3rd one soon ....

have just finished the second trailer now only difference was the owner wanted 3 inch drop axles and not the 4 inch like was fitted to mine and he went for falcon rims instead of commy as his tow car...

on my car trailer i gave it 2 coats of kill rust primer and about 4 coats of hammertone grey i just kept painting till the 4 litre tin was empty so i think that one wont be going rusty for a while ....

i would just replace the rusted rails i actually did a simialer job on my old boat trailer when i had it . if your going to replace the trailer soon i would be spending as little as you can keeping...

i would prob replace the whole rails if a section is rusted then prob the rest of it would be as well .then paint with cold galv . actually after the repair i prob would clean the rest of the trailer...

ah cheers for that didnt know the knurl diameter is the same i will keep that bit of info in mind for other applications .may well leave this alone if it's not going to be a issue

there seems to ne a lot of leeway for axle placment on trailers according to what formula for axle placment you choose to use . if i went the 1/2 rule my axles would only be 7 1/2 inches...
