I use the bandsaw to cut curves in metal and plastic at times. So a horizontal bandsaw doesn't really fit that bill.

I might be a wimp - but I wouldn't rely on glue alone. I would either reinforce with cross-supports (a bit crude, but strong) or use a glued in spline for extra strength...
