I think 3mm steel on it's own would be enough for light work, I have 2.3mm floor plate in my trailer and I haven't put a dent in it yet. It comes down to what you want to spend at the end of the day....

Aluminum plate top would work, It'll cost a fair bit more but it'll last a long time.

It seems even with a tandem axle and 3 bikes across the draw bar the towball download is still around 190kg.

Two hours later and the basic frame is mostly welded. Just the top side needs to be welded, It's about 1mm within being square so I'm happy with that. Also got the spring hangers on.

Wow it's been a while. I just ordered all the steel needed to make the trailer and it's going to be deliverd tomorrow so I'll finally be able to make a start on this thing.

Last I heard it would cost around $700 for a 6x4 box trailer. The trailer being painted already isn't a issue as they acid dip everything first to remove any paint, rust ect.
