If your willing to put a bit of work into it, Birchwood Caseys' True Oil is awsome,it will seal the wood and with several coats leaves a beautiful finish.

This may sound silly but the other day when i was using liquid gold on my oak table top i actually read the can(concept huh?..lol).

It says it can be used on bare wood as a finish. Well i tried...

Ive made that finish with standard turpentine myself,brings out the color in oak nicely. Doesnt give much protection,just looks pretty.
