A Small Gouge - give away

I have found this tool whilst clearing out a shed. I know it should live inside of lathemans cupboard, and although it has no handle, someone in Turnerland would be able to make and fix one onto it. First up gets to own it. P. M. me please.

Congrats Nalmo, good score but I doubt its a turning Gouge. Tang looks more suited for a hand carving gouge, would think seriously before applying it to a spinning lathe if this is what you're intending to use it for.

Hi Nalmo,
Yes, a nice pickup, but I think it just maybe a Railway Gouge Bit for a Brace. Test it out on the Grinder, to see if it is Carbon Steel, which I think it could be.
No matter, it will still work OK. Used that kind for many years when starting out. We would go to a Surplus Supplier, & paid $ 2.75 for each one. They worked a treat.

Judging by the size of it, I won't be using it for large items, and I'm sure it will do a nice job on the little pieces I have in mind.

Well it's on its way nalmo. Posted this arvo, and wrapped well in case it tries to gouge its way out of the packet. I hope you can show us pictures of it when it's up and running.

Issatree, I can't figure out how this would work in a brace, but you must be right. It is more like the tang should really go into a brace.

That's two tools I've found out about in one week on these great forums.

Arrived intact & well packed. Thanks once again Buzza. Made a Red Gum handle the night it arrived & sharpened the tool to use as a small detail gouge. Worked OK but will might different grinds to see what works best. Will try to organise pics.

I can't wait to see it Nalmo. but I guess I will have to. A Red Gum handle will make it a truly Australian tool.
