    Default Timber Gloat

I was coming home from the market today and saw 4 logs by the side of the road that looked as though they may be black walnut. I stopped and asked the man who was cleaning up the property if I could have them. He said I could, but said they were wet.

I loaded two, dropped them at the house and came back and got the other two. They were indeed wet, apparently were in the stream at the bottom of the property. They were walnut with a nice figure. The diameter of the two biggest ones is 300mm plus.

The red stuff is a waterproofing I got cheap at a surplus store.

I have them covered, out of the sun, and will start roughing bowls tomorrow.

It's nice wood, but it makes me sneeze. Don't work it much any more. Shavings are not good for pets, especially horses and dogs. Can kill weeds and other plants as well.

By the way Paul, here is your notice to clean up the shed, as i will be at your place in approx 12 months time. And i want to turn something on your Woodfast lathe.

Neil, when i did the checks 2 years ago, Wallnut was a restricted import, because believe me i was drooling over some blanks at Cormack Internation when i was with Paul.
