    Default Clear coat acrylic lacquer

I have been offer almost 4 lt of clearcoat acrylic lacquer (automotive lacquer) by a friend who thought it may be OK for finishing some of my turnings. It can be thinned with general purpose acrylic lacquer thinners. This is not the 2 pack product.

Has anyone used this on thier woodwork or have any suggestions as to preparation and any sealing, etc which would be necessary before appling the clear coat?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Bob!
I have not had much experience with auto acrylic, but what little I have had, it gives a HIGH gloss finish and without some form of sealer it can de-laminate over time on very close grained timber. However it may be that I did not cut it enough

Don't sand too fine before applying (like 120ish - 180ish) and let it be its own filling agent; put on 5-6 coats then sand/compound as required.

I would have thought prep was the same as NCL. I sand to sometimes 1500, wipe down with thinners, then start with 50-80% thinned depending on density
