Hot mix glue

A question posed to me by a lady acquaintance who is into craftwork which I would ask of all within this forum!
Are there any finishes that would not take adhesion of hot melt glue?
This lady is trying to experiment with finishes in her craftwork and uses a hot melt glue gun to adhere her designs to solid timber.

Wouldn't the rear of the piece be the glued surface therefore not finished?
The only problem I have encountered with hot glue guns is;
1. Long runs and quick setting.
2. Strength is questionable and only suitable for small light jobs.
3. Certain synthetics will not accept hot glue (maybe this was the question?) such as delrin and similar.
Having said all that I find the hot glue gun is very versatile and my wife often steals mine for gluing up dried flower and fabric arrangements onto a timber backing, I also use it as a block to hold a piece of timber with a pattern cut out so I can slide it through the bandsaw without having to follow the contours on the base. I hope that makes sense, a quick knock with a hammer afterwards is enough to dislodge it.

Yeah Iain, thats exactly what the lady wants to do but wants the flexibility that a range of finishes can offer.
Being a craft lady who dabbles in all manner of small items she is looking to enhance her product with different finishes that will highlight her efforts but is constrained to using a glue gun for her rapid setting of motifs etc.
