    Default Neither Flat or Round......

    Just a little square plate.........

Sorry the second pic is out of focus

Nice, fun little project, about 4" square. The wood is Japanese Evergreen Oak.

It is a little too soft for this, and a little too flexible too.

Next time around, I'll be using Hard Maple.

    Hope you like it!

Did you turn it square or did you cut it square later.

Some people glue bits on the edge of the blank, turn it round & then cut or break the unwanted bit off & clean up the square edges.

Some people do a LOT of things, but I'm not one of them

No way, start with a square piece of wood, and turning it.

    Cheers!

Gluing the sacrificial pieces on helps to keep the edges crisp, stopping the leading edge from rounding over during sanding.

Not that I'd ever have any problems with this.

The reason I glue them on is 'cos I've developed this aversion to the damned edges making like a propellor on my fingers.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Each to his own I guess.

I just don't like having to bother with the gluing up biz.

    Hi Stu

A simple and elegant piece! Yes, I do indeed like it! I think you've got the balance on it right, the balance between the depth of the bowl and the size of the square

    cheers

Short leash, ya, a bit, work is a whole 60 meters from home and I work way too much, and because of that, I don't go out much But I do play in the Dungeon when I can, which is almost daily for at least an hour or two. You know that hour or two, that most people spend transfixed in front of the TV, not me, I spend it making interesting firewood

    Cheers!
