Mountain Ash
A friend of a friend has just removed a Mountain Ash from his suburban yard............ or at least he thinks that's what it is. He planted it a long time ago. He is in Brisbane.
Can someone tell me please if you think (1) it would be suitable to salvage for woodturning, and (2) is it fine grained suitable for miniature work?
Is there a site which describes Mountain Ash?

Barbara,
Would'nt be my choice of timbers for turning but it is a nice straight grained pale timber sometimes with a bit of pink in it. Of course thats when its grown in a forest!
Mountain Ash = Victorian Ash = Eucalyptus regnans (sometimes E. delegatensis)
In the wild it grows to massive heights which is why it is the World's Tallest Flowering Plant.
Not much chop for miniatures, tends to be too coarse and splintery.
Great for furniture, flooring etc.

Moutain Ash can also be bought as Tasmainian Oak but this can also be Alpine Ash or Messmate.
