Clock Movements

Ok, you artsy craftsy types! I want to know if there is a top brand movement ( you know the black type that you recess in the back and the hands get attached to the front and it takes one AA battery ) That won't bugger up! I made my mother a SENSATIONAL looking clock using a burl and the first movement I used lasted for years, but it buggered up and I have had nothing but problems with the movements I have tried in it since. All sorts of problems, not just slowing down ( and no its not the batteries ).
So I wondered if there were one particular type or manufacturer that actually made the movements so they dont bugger up so quickly?? I need to know this as I have been booked to make another one ( clock that is ), plus I need to replace the current movement in mummies!

Yeah, having worked as a Horologist years back, i can say that there are only a few Quartz movements worth installing...
Probably the best would have to be a Swedish movement by "Westerstrands", next would be Keinzle... Most of the Japanese/Taiwanese/Chinese movements are hopeless. Try Ingrams Bright in melbourne. They are in the yellow pages.

I have used the German Hermle and found them to be absolutely useless as well as top dollar. Their mechaical movements are good but the quartz are totally unreliable as well as using a 'N' cell which is expensive.
I buy mine from Lets Make Time 'Gary Pye' in NSW and he backs his products. Can't find his email at the moment but will post it when it turns up. Gary may respond to this post if he reads this.

Iain, what brand do you buy from Lets Make Time? Also I can't find their details in the online yellow pages. So if you have some details, could I bother you to post them here please?

The clock movements we sell are Takane they are made in the USA and we have had a good run with them,we sell over 60,000 units per year.Common mistakes for installing movements are overtightning the screw which holds the movement to the wood etc,what happens is this twist or breaks the circuit board in the movement,other common problems are dropping the movement or complete clock and using batteries which leak and damage the movement.Please note we have shifted to a new warehouse on the Gold Coast our address is 1/12 Traders Way Currumbin 4223,pH 0755 25 7561 fax 075525 7564 email [email protected]
