    Exclamation Grandfather Clock

Has anybody got a set of grandfather clock plans that they no longer need?
Naturally I would be willing to offer a small amount for said plans(small being the operative word as I'm tight fisted B).Also has anyone who has built one of these ever got a good deal on the inner workings?
    Cheers

    Question

    Hey Johnno,

How you going with the Clock? Have you made a start yet? I have decided I might make some time to get started on one myself, so if you have made some progress and have found anything conflicting in the plans, let me know.

    Cheers..

G,day Shane I have decided to build it out of Jarrah with some scroll sawn Oz flora incorporated into the design.Have done most of the lower carcass and have cut out the top.
Am shopping around for prices for the hardware.Meanwhile its on the backburner as a blanket box has been decreed necessary by 'er indoors, but have had no problebs so far ..will keep you posted.

Thats great Johnno. I had a bit of a look at the plans today, as I have done several dozen times, but I had never taken much notice of the dimensions. Do they seem a little small to you? For example the side panels are only 197mm wide. That does not seem very wide to me?? I thought I might scale it up a bit, but what do you reakon? Are you using the plans measurements? If so, Is it looking dimensional? By that I mean, its not looking aneamic is it??
Anyway just thought I would get your thoughts on this seeing as your further ahead than I am.

    Cheers

    Cool

Hi Shane, given that I don't want an enormous clock in the hallway waking us up with the not so dulcet tones outside the bedroom door I thought that I would stick to the plans and build as laid out in the plans.
You may want to dimension it up particularly if you have a special spot for it and that woudn'nt matter too much as it would be in keeping with the decorum of the clock.
The sides are narrow as you said but with the overall look of the clock no matter what dimension you build it to it is only in keeping with the graceful lines as was intended I'm sure.
I'm hoping to incorporate some scroll sawn flora in these side panels giving what I envisage an Oz look making it unique in it's appearance and thus will be the only changes anticipated.
    Cheers

Yeah thanks Johnno, I think I may make up a dummy run to see what the scales like. That way I won't waste any goodwood! Your idea of scrolling in Oz patterns in side panels is a goodun! But I think I may substitute the flat panels for raised panels.
The thing I was thinking about the scale of it, is that the top and bottom sections look like they will be big enough, but the middle section kinda looks to me that it will be to small, so there will be a kind of top/bottom heavy look to it...
Oh well, will wait and see as its a bit hard to picture the end product off paper...

    Cheers...

    Unhappy

Got a good price for the mechanical workings for a Grandfather(long case )clock Shane.
Now all I gotta do is have a tug-o'-war with er indoors over the plastic square thingy.

My guess is she will let go when she realises how much we're savin' compared with others!

Meantime standin' orders remain finish off the blanket box.....then consider other duties......yes ma'am..no ma'am three bags full ma'am...bloody 'ell ...lifes 'ard when you're under the pump...whew!!!

    Cheers
