    Default Chest blanket box WIP

Not so big stuff but still bigger than a carton of beer. This is a chest/blanket box for a client. Mango top, Kauri Pine sides, Camphor base, Camphor and Kauri tray/shelf.
Brass hardware is from Lee Valley. Today I sliced up most of the pieces and ran them through the thicknesser (love the smell of the Camphor going through the thicknesser). Alas the top and the fromt panel are too big so both will be done by hand. The front panel I did this afternoon 27mm down to 20mm and took out a bit of a twist. I would like to resaw the 50mm Mango top and drop it down to 30 or even 25mm. I don't realy want to just turn it into shavings though so looking at my resaw options. Thinking of maybe knocking up a quick chainsaw mill like the small Alaskan log mill. I'll sleep on it and see what I come up with. A thin kerf chain would be handy.

Hi Pete, Waldo, anyone can find a big bandsaw, I like to do things the hard way. Either make myself a little chainsaw mill or maybe use my fathers old crosscut, just keeping it straight might be my problem then

That shiny bit of stuff would look great if you sawed it into veneers and quartered it on the top of the box.
    .
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

I vote for the dark side doing it by hand. Or should I say the original side doing it by hand.

Really nice to see this work in progress, as long as it is not me doing the sawing.

Not exactly correct, I would give it a go, sawing by hand. Then go out and purchase something a little thinner because of the stuff up that I created.

Ah WW, I think beauty should be more than just skin deep. I love seeing the grain of a beautiful piece of timber run all the way across a table top like a set of long legs and then just gently roll over a soft rounded edge to another dimension like the curves of a soft breast. Nup, veneer just doesn't do it for me
Glued to your seat Ray, I'm glad I can keep that amount of excitment in my jobs for you. I will leave you all in suspence over whether I use the chainsaw or drag out and dust off the crosscut. I asked Dad about it today but he has given it to my nephhew to hang on his wall along with his broadaxe. I will speak to the youngster tomorrow and see which way I go with it. I have had a casual eye out for one of the large single enders for a while but this is the first time it could have come in very handy. Ah the suspence,,,, petrol power or Anzac power

Oh Ray the Chest joke is very funny, this one would only work if you were a midget 1mL x 400w x 500h OD

Tony feel free to call in help anytime, I might even use my nephew since its now his saw. Don't forget to drop your vice handle timber in
    some time too.

Christos, I think you need to come up to Newy for a day or two and do some woodwork with me to toughen you up a little

I think you need less interruptions not more.

The story will unfold something like this,
Claw Hama yells out to Christos, "Don't touch that!"
    Christos replies, "Touch what?"
    "That." Claw Hama explains.
Christos reaching out and inquiring, "You mean this thing?"

Silence engulfs the shed, as the old saving goes you could hear a pin drop, above the whirling noise of the machine and the hollowing scream of pain excreted from Claw Hama, knowing that the resulting mess of flesh and blood would rust his machine.

Christos casually looking at the terror riddle face of Claw Hama asked the questions, "Is this machine self lubricating? And where did you get the red coloured oil?"

Later in the hospital waiting room, nursing his bandaged hand Christos is waiting patiently for Claw Hama to be released from the physo ward. Christos knew that Claw Hama having been originally driven by ambulance would not have his car available at the hospital parking lot. Christos smiling to the nurse and doctor walking past whom were other wise engaged in their own conversation about a patient speedy recovery. But also smiling to him self that this small gesture of driving Claw Hama home is the least he could do, since over two months have passed.

In spite of the previous two attempts of trying to take Claw Hama home this time for sure, Christos kept telling himself. He thought that it would be nice to take the scenic route to dead mans cliff as the view was spectacular, close to the edge. It did not concern Christos that it meant the drive would take an extra two hours it will be worth it.

"This time for sure." mumbled Christos to himself

    "This time for sure.."

Ah Christos you're a hoot, where does this stuff come from you seem like such a stable fellow in person. Are there any large electrical mains or gas pipes near your home? You don't live a Lucus heights or cloase by do you?

I think that I might have gone a little bit overboard on the last comment.

I hope that I have not distracted from the thread.

Hi artme, the mix of timbers should come together well I think. The chopped down table goes tomorrow and I can realy get into the chest properly then. Unless I end up in hospital with Christos.
