Lightbulb How not to make a ladder

After searching and searching for the right piece I finally gave up and settled on a piece of Tea tree (Leptospermum laevigatum) to make a ladder of sorts.

Securing one end in the bench vise, I set about cutting it in half with a Jig saw propping the other end up with a length of scrap wood and gaffer tape as I went along. I could have done with an extra hand or two as controlling the cut in the middle while the Jig saw bouncers around requires just a little teeth clenching and white knuckles. Breaking three blades along the way I made it to the end leaving the last four inches or so uncut for some support. I then taped it up and marked out the spacing for the rungs.

Next step will be shaping each end of the eleven rungs to fit holes drilled through each of the ladders' legs. The space between each rung will be less and less as they go and be thinner and narrower. So fitting it all together should be a real sinch The rest of the day was spent tuning up the neglected blades of my spoke shaves so their ready to go which is satisfying to know

There's more than a fair chance this little adventure could end in disaster but I think it's worth taking the leap, fingers crossed

Looks interesting. What does one climb with this ladder?

Narrow end down, would be a fine grape arbor.

Otherwise, let's suppose you are acquainted with an insufferable social climber.
    Offer them some support?

Goodo, by the way, I've often wondered when I see your work, it's mostly pictured high against a changing blue sea, do you live above a cliff?

The house is perched about 100 meters from the edge of Australia. Sea is about 400 ft below that....

Hello springwater! Not travelling but big changes. Sold up at Cabarlah, post separation stuff, so I bought an old place in town and set up a new workshop which is good fun. New job too. But have been making stuff, and had a few exhibitions. Some shots if you scroll down here: http://raygunlab.com/

Working with natural forms is a challenge, especially to wrestle them into a structure like a ladder! Good luck
