    Does any one know of a good power carver with gouges tha tisn't expensive starting out

    Arbortech is good and reasonably cheap if you already have a 4" grinder to hook her up to.....

    as earthling said is the best for rough shaping don't get the power chisel thing wast of money get a set of hand chisels
