ROUTER CARVER

It would be interesing to hear whether any of you folk out there have used the Router Carver with it's various designs for cabinet/kitchen doors etc?
I was wondering what the expected life would be of the router cutter as I imagine it would be a costly item to replace and or whether it would have to be sharpened professionally?

Asking for the life of a router carver is like asking how long a piece of string is. You might expect it to last as long as any of your normal Carbide tipped router bits as it is made the same way. When we do demos with the carver we may do as many as 100 carvings in a couple of days in MDF which as you may realise is very abrasive. We can do probably do about 300 carvings in the handle surround size before sharpening. If you did damage the cutter you can get just a cutter only (not the whole assembly) as a spare!
As for sharpening we would recomend it is done professionally. If you use a diamond dresser be sure to only use it on the faces of the cutter and not the relieved edges.

Thanks Tim,I did'nt realise that the cutter was replaceable but then again it makes sense.The whole bit would be expensive to replace.I guess getting around 300 cuts in MDF is not a bad return on your bit.
