Walking Stick Jig.
Walking stick jig.
I copied this jig from one I saw in a dvd. It has really made carving on walking stick much easier. There are many different versions stick jigs out there. But I have not seen one as portable as this one. That’s not to say there are not any. I have taken it on camping trips and just clamped it to a picnic table. It is 30 inches long and 8 inches wide. It will hold a stick up to about 4 inches in diameter. I had a clamp on the bottom but I found I like the bungee cord better because it was more flexible working with sticks that were not straight.

I turned some different size round blocks that equalize the pressure when you clamp down the stick. You can also use a piece off the stick you are carving. I have 3 sizes, they are 1, 2, and 3 inches round. They do not have to be the same size as the stick you are working on. If you like carving sticks and do not have a jig to hold one this is a easy one to make and works very good.
