Adelaide Woodworkers
Hello Everyone,
I am just wondering how many South Australians visit this forum. My Name is Andrew and i live in Munno Para.
Also where on earth do you buy your wood from I know of Otto and co and bone timber but they are a little far away.
Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend Bone timber, their prices are steep and their service poor to say the least. Otto too is steep in price but if you're after a specific type of wood then they're your best bet. I've purchased from Australian Timbers and Handypine, I'd recommend the latter over the former for rough sawn timber though. The last few packs of timber I purchased from Australian Timbers had a high percentage of undersized stock, almost criminal if you ask me. While they do allow you to send back any planks you don't like, it get's tiring after a few times, may as well give my money to a company that gives me what I paid for in the first place.
If you don't have a jointer and/or thicknesser, look for a joinery business in your neighbourhood, they'll prolly be happy to machine it for you at a reasonable cost.

I have never had a problem with Bone Timber, but I've only been using them for 30 years, if you are looking for hard to get timber or exotic stuff then Otto is about your only choice, I think Adelaide Rural will machine timber for you, not 100% sure, if you are after woodturning blanks I think Macwood have some

To qualify my statement, I last purchased from Bone Timbers back in 1997, when I was a much younger lad and a first time customer of theirs. I delt directly with Andrew Bone, and on a particular occasion he was rude and unhelpful. I figured if the guy running the show could afford to disrespect any customers, then they didn't need my money, so I took my business elsewhere. I'm glad you've gotten 30 years of good service from them.
