    Default AVS wood glues

    Hi Guys & Girls
Wheelin's Titebond thread got me thinking, I have a good supply of glue for the month or so, a 3.7lt (less a bit used) of Titebond Original and a smaller bottle of Sellys Aqua----- whatever water resistant I picked up the other day (Titebond III is about empty). I did have a look around about a year back at any Australian made glues, few and far between, AVS is now owned by Bostik but as far as I know the AVS glues are made for Australian timbers and as far as I know still made in Australia. I was looking at the AV XL Plus or AV 270/275 as water resistant glues and AV 101 as a standard furniture/woodwork glue. Has anyone had any experience with these? Or any other views etc

I use av 180 (yellow, dries slightly darker, but semi opaque) exclusively for all my work, I find that it dries hard and has minimal growth in the glue line after finishing. av 275 (white, dries clear) although produced for timber work stays elastic and WILL grow after finishing.

I have things that have been glued with av180 for well over ten years now and they are still as tight as were made. The only hassle would be that it is only sold in 500ml bottles and 5L bottles. They have a shelf life on the bottle but I know that it will last at least 2 years past that. There is no need to keep the container sealed, it doesn't seem to matter one way or the other.

on the other hand, the av 275 does have a shelf life although I'm not sure what it is.

I normally buy mine through the lincoln sentry group.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Robert
Thats the sort of information I wanted, I looked at the 180 but I do mainly solid hardwood so the 101 looked the go. The larger size containers are fine, I usually buy 4lts or so at a time. Shelf life sounds good too. Thanks for the help.

Thanks Artme, they have been around for a long while on the industrial scene so I thought they should be good.
