    Default band saw tires

    Please help.
I have an old style 3 wheel band saw that requires new tires for two of the wheels. The wheel diameters are 165mm (61/2 inches). Can any one please help me out with a supplier?

Get an old tyre tube from a tyre shop, cut it into loops and use contact adhesive. Cut the loops over wide and trim them with a sharp knife once the glue has dried.

Or ebay has them for about $20 each in urethane, which lasts well.

I have come up with a urethane tyre for a 14" wheel in the USA. Are these the only ones available, or are they available locally?

I don't know if they are available locally, probaly the saw blade suppliers could advise. Remember the americans spell tyre tire.

You can make your own tyres easily and inexpensive.
Clarke Rubber stores sell rubber insertion in strips of various width and thickness and sell it by the metre.
It can easily trimmed to size with a straight edge and Stanley knife.
Cut the strip to fit around the wheel with a slight overlap.
Now cut both the ends on a opposite bevel equal to two thickness's of rubber.
Use Contact Cement to glue the rubber to the wheel and SuperGlue to join the bevels.
I have done this using this very same method and it has been successful for many years.
P.S. I have made the drive belts using round urethane rubbers and Superglue to join them. Note you must cut the rubber on a bevel for a larger surface area for the glue and stronger bond.

    Hope this helps,

Black Ned, do the aluminium wheels have the crown machined on them and the rubber molds to suit the dome, or does the rubber just stay flat?

    Attention Treecycle.

The rubber is flat - no crown.

The bandsaw blade has not tracked off the wheel and I did this in 2006.

You will have to adjust the tracking initially to suit the blade.

Note: Not all blades are welded correctly and they seem to track differently.

You may have to set tracking each time you change blades.

This is quite simply done by adjusting the top tracking set screw whilst spinning the blade by hand. DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE POWER CONNECTED.
