Matt
I go to Bangkok on a regular basis. NOt much available on the woodworking front of quality.
Great place to get tailor made suits and cheap T shirts though.
Food is great and taxis are cheap.

I didn't find very much at all when it came to tools ..... there is a good computer market if you are into software, dvds or other electronic items. The night markets are good but not many tools. Everything is cheap

Just ask the Taxi driver to take you to Pantip Plaza. It's just overwhelming. Computers, electrical pirated DVD's, software etc.

Robert,
Mat sounds like he would know better than I.
I didn't find the electronic goods all that cheap ...... I was in the market for an Ipod if I could find one cheap, but they were better value over here. I would think that the good quality electrical goods would be imported, and thus expensive, and the ones that are cheap likely to be counterfeit and not a great buy.
As for the market ..... jump in a taxi and ask to go to the computer market ..... they know where to go. If the taxi driver insists on taking you to various shops to "look" so that he can get free petrol vouchers just give him a little more coin to take you where you are going without stops, trust me on this one.Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. Can't comment too much on Camera prices as I haven't had a need to look recently.
Always remember to bargain, the prices can be brought down. Computer components are definitely cheap. A friend recently bought a laptop and although cheaper than Aust I remember him saying it wasn't by much.
Pantip plaza is worth a look for the experience alone!
