    Question Basketball Back Board

I made a temporary backboard for the brats using a scrap piece of chipboard, it worked well and after 5 years it is now considerably thicker than when it started (I wonder why? rain etc) and threatening to fall down. I said it was only a temporary measure.
Now I have to make a permanent one and I don't know what to use.
I was thinking of using 1/2" ply and sealing it with ?????????
What is the best finish to weatherproof the beast so it will last more than 5 years, and be more asthetically (wow, that was big for pre 9.00am) pleasing.
    Thanks.

I'll get the kids to do the painting, give them something to do at the weekend.
I thought that there would be an epoxy type finish like the ones you see in the shops but oil based sounds good to me.

temporary? 5 years? nice to see im not the only one who procrastinates ... i meant thinks and plans things really well.

i would go with what stoppers suggested, i built one years ago at my parents place and its still standing. I used plywood and coated it well, got someone to weld up a nice frame that went around the edge of the board and then attached that to the support pole.
