What could I make with a small board of red oak?
I have some red oak left over from a project, a 2ft 1x4. It's a nice piece of wood and I would like to do something with it. I was thinking of making a few oak handles for tools, but I'm not sure what to do with the rest. Any ideas?

It's a good size for a box carcass. Bandsaw it down the middle and you can have a box with the grain continuous around it. Slots top & bottom for contrasting panels, and saw the top off after it's all glued up. There are lots of variations, but that's the general idea.

sounds like the basis for a challenge!
I too, think a box, or a miniature chest of drawers would suit.

I make it a plank 2 foot long by an inch thick and four inches wide
(or 609.6x25.4x101.6ish)
EDIT: And if you get really stuck for something to make you could make a small board out of red oakIf you find you have dug yourself a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.

Note the Location of the OP: NC = North Carolina, i.e. USA.
Translation into real English: 2 ft long; clear enough.
1x4 = nominal size, without inch marks. real dimensions about 3/4" thick x 3 1/2" wide dressed size.
Metric size: 610mm long x 19mm x 89mm. Or to equivalent precision, 610 x 20 x 90.
Feeling any better now?

How about cutting it up into 2' long and 1" wide and 1/8" thick scribe some marks on it and make some old fashion ruler's to show the young kids or export them to the States, Obviously if you want to make metric convert the above.
Just an idea
