buying a Trend airshield from the UK
Hi. I keep thinking that I should buy myself a Trend Airshield, but every time I look them or their competitors I'm amazed at the price and keep putting it off. I have thought of buying one from the US but different power, lack of warrantee etc has stopped me.
Today I saw this Buy Trend Airshield Pro from Axminster, fast delivery for the UK .
Now maybe this is not so impractical because:
1. my understanding is that exported goods are not charged VAT, so the total price is 154 UK pounds, currently $235 in real money.
2. I know postage is going to be a lot, but I'm assuming for now it'll be less then $100 postage.
3. I am also assuming it'll be using the same power as us - so just find a UK plug adaptor, plug it in and go.
4. This is for the PRO version, not the old one.
Can anyone comment on this ? Am I wrong with these assumptions ?
cheers
Arron
ps. I know they arent very comfortable too use, too top heavy etc - but I've only got one set of lungs so I'm prepared to put up with the negatives.Apologies for unnoticed autocomplete errors.

What's the rest of your dust collection/protection setup like? You may be better off dust-wise to spend the money and postage on improving your dust collection and ventilation.

Hi Arron
I bought an Airshield Pro from here Big-Red-Toolbox-Australia the company is based in the UK but all prices in Au$ with free delivery.
Very, very happy with the purchase. Delivered by Fedex within three days of ordering. Need a UK to Au adaptor for the plug pack, got mine from Jaycar for under $10. Bought spare battery, filters and faceshield protectors. Saved well over $200.
Couldn't see the respirator listed just now but a message to them about restocking should get you an answer.
The Axminster price is a good one, cheaper than the one I bought but with postage probably not a lot of difference.
Good Luck with whatever you decide.
Best wishes
Graham

Re: buying a Trend airshield from the UK
I got mine from a company in the UK a few years ago. Ended up being about half the price I'd have paid locally. Shipping wasn't too bad if I recall.

I have dealt with the big red tool box on two occasions and can say they are great. Last time a month ago, they included a plug converter so you could use it straight away and it was free. I admit it was a cheap one but free never the less.
SBPower corrupts, absolute power means we can run a hell of alot of power tools

Good Morning Arron
Your assumptions are correct. I have also had good experiences with Axminster - delivery usually takes 7 - 10 days, sometimes quicker.
When you place an order they calculate the freight charges and then send you an email and ask you to confirm the order and the preferred freight option. Your credit card is then billed, and your bank will also charge you a "forex" fee of about $5. If the landed cost of the order is under $1,000 then there is no Customs or GST.
For 240 volt electrical tools I just cut off the British plug and replace it with an Australian one. Transformers are a different matter - I just got some British "power cord sockets" and wired one onto the end of a short Aus extension cord. [extension cord plugged into powerpoint, British transformer plugged into British style socket on other end of extension cord - hope this makes sense.]
With you order it might also be worth considering the matching ear muffs and five years supply of the best filters.

Out of curiosity I've just spoken to Axminster, the Airshield will cost £153.75p (ex VAT) and postage will be £82.00 via TNT economy delivery (5 - 7 days). So a total cost £235.75p. But I don't know about your import duties or taxes.

Great, thanks for doing that. That works out to about $362 Australian, which is pretty good compared to the local $530-600 local price. There would be no import duty or other inbound charges on this item.
By the way, did they offer TNT economy as the only option - I'm in no hurry so would be happy with a slower service if it saves a few dollars ?
cheers

Sorry, I snuck a couple of minutes at work to ring them, and only found this follow-up question this evening.
I did ask if postage was Airmail or by Sea, which was when they said the TNT option. I did not ask any further and it's now 20:35 so they've all gone home - sorry.
You could always e-mail them your question, I know the shop & warehouse is open Saturdays, but not sure if the Export Staff are in the office.Dragonfly

Seems 82 pounds is the cheapest they can do the shipping. The email said they regretted the high cost but were unable to use their regular shipping service as the item contains batteries. Pity, not quite as good a deal as I hoped because of that.
I went ahead and ordered one anyway.
Cheers
