    Default Daughter Urgent Call

What have I done dug myself in deeper.

Daughter rings URGENT Dad need your help and sweet talks me into making a hutch for the TV to sit on so DVD/VCR and topset box can sit under.
Say's she has picked up some Melamine to use, turns up to help me make it yesterday with the MDF which is actually veneered with what looks like Blackwood 1200x600 sheet for $28 (she is picking me up 3 sheets this afternoon for a sewing table for Sue). We got it cut ( forgot to use masking tape to stop tare out didn't I on edges ) and glued yesterday while temp went from 18C to 10C left it clamped up overnight.

Able to get back out there today 18C fit top edge bits which are Cedar and sand it and a couple of coats of Danish Oil leave overnight for another quick sand and a coat of wax.

first time picks didn't load properly to forum

    Dear Wheelin',

Looks great! That Danish Oil is a sweet finish alright. Just wondering, though, if there's anything underneath that we can't see, for the purpose of bracing against sideways rocking? (Be a pity if the big Flatscreen came down with an almight great Crash!... She'd have to wait for the next Stimulus package to come along in order to replace it. And who knows - Kev might be out by then too!... So no more "packages", no more Flatscreens...)

    Best Wishes,

    Best Wishes,
Yep a brace across the back 2 1/2" its strong enough ATM they only have a small LCD screen TV and its strong enough to cope I dropped it while sanding no damage and didn't fall apart either.

I take it you cut it from the top rather than from the bottom Ray?

I always cut from the bottom with a hand held c/saw as it'll leave a clean line with virtually no tearout

DJ the veneering was just as good either side so no idea which was up or down.

Used the Triton Mk3 to cut it on with 40 tooth blade.

There's your problem. An 80 toother is much, much better for this sorta work...
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

From the looks of the tearout on your top it look like you had the top face-down on the Triton saw.

You should still get a reasonable finish off a 40 tooth blade if you have the top facing up on the tablesaw and another trick with cutting veneer board is to score along the cut line with a marking knife or utility knife beforehand
