Edging melamine with aluminium
Hi all,
I'm looking to edge 18mm particleboard with square aluminium extrusion (18 x 18mm) if possible. What would be the best way to ensure that the join is strong? Screws? Particular kinds of glue? Both?
Thanks

Epoxy adhesive.
To keep the mess down, I'd suggest masking off both the face of the board and the visible faces of the aluminium. Cheap duct tape is a good impermeable masking tape for this purpose.
Apply a quick smear of epoxy to the board edge to get it to sink in, then thicken the epoxy with filler or sanding dust and put on a nice thin even coat, then plop on the aluminium edge (with the gluing side of the aluminium sanded with 80 grit paper to ensure adhesion) and clamp lightly till it sets. No screws or other fasteners required.
