Need help with a bandsaw, please
I thought that I would never need a bandsaw but my next door neighbor brought his dining room chair with a broken leg. Can you fix it?of course I can, I will do whatever for my neighbors they don't complain about the machinery noise. So it is time for the bandsaw. At Canberra today Fisher discounts where having a sale but the 14 inch machines they had brought in from China for the sale didn't suit. So as I need the machine this week and I have to go to Canberra on Tuesday. I have Gasweld and Carbatec to choose from. Gasweld have Toolex I bought a 6 inch joiner from them and it was only $399.00 and for the price I would say it is OK.
If I go Carbatec the 14 inch models
SW 1401 $529 cut 150 throat 345 mm
Bas 350 $689 cut 200 throat 340 mm
SBW 3501 $699 cut 150 throat 340 mm
CTJ 3501 $799 cut 200 throat 345 mm
Why so many models that seem to do the same job, which one would you buy?

I've got the Bas 350 and I am pretty happy with it. Did upgrade the fence to the Kreg as the stock one is pretty light and crappy to setup.
Another thing to look at is the size of the motor, the Bas 350 won in the end for me due to motor size and priceCheers

I have the same saw, chosen for the same reasons. I also upgraded the fence, to the Timbecon aftermarket one, although if I had known about the Kreg I probably would have gone that way, noice!
I was in C/tec-Melbourne on Thursday and they were selling the BAS-350 for $595, just a heads up.
At that price it can't be beat I reckon, I have resawn Grey Box to the maximum capacity of the saw, no worries. Dust extraction is also good.
If I have any criticism, easy to fix, it is the height of the table. I'm not the worlds' tallest person and I find it a bit high. Having said that, I measured a range of bandsaws at Hafco and C/tec and the ranged from 900-1100 mm high to the top of table. At least with the BAS-350, you can make a lower cabinet to sit it on. On my "gunnado" list, together with putting it on a mobile base.

my advise is to get advise off everone that knows anything about them and go and talk to the salesman, then forget everything you have herd and buy the one that you think suits your needs.
if there is one that suits your needs but it is too tall (and you are short like me) then do what i did.
copied:start; I have an old bandsaw that i got from a mate that closed down his sawmill and did not need it any more (when i saw old its old all the text and brands have been worn off and the table needed replacing as well as some of the side pannels) it was too tall for me so i built a platform to stand on right around it but it just got in the way so i sat down and had a think and decided i would cut a hole in the floor and drop it threw shee has been there for 4 years and is running like a charm. i just hope i dont have to replace the belt that is right down the bottom as i would have to lift it right out of the floor witch would mean i would have to pull half my shed appart. :end:

Thanks for the info guys, I will go with the BAS-350.
Big shed any idea why they reduced the saw nearly $100.00?
