help please silky oak bed
this morning my mother was in a second hand store and found a pair of silky oak bed ends. the price was right so she got them now its up to me to make to try and make a bed but i have no cabinetry skills, i turn wood and work with metal so im asking for some help
a few things the bed head was falling apart and we needed to pull out the joints to get it in the boot so its down to its major parts and only missing one back slat (not there when we bought it) its legs had also been shortened at some time and it sits very low to the ground but mum wants it to be a little higher when im done
sorry i have uploaded pic's but for some reason i cant copy them so bare with me and ill try to have them up soonhappy turning

ok fixed it
here is everything i have
this is the Bed Head all apart it was glued up with some #### glue and was very easy to pull out the joins also u can see one of the slats is missing
this is the bed foot end i think im going to have to take this end apart but im not sure how also the tape measure is to give scale its 1 meter long
here is the hardware to fix the sides on i don't know if its original or if ill find mating parts
here is a join on the foot end the bed has putty filler in it some not so well done i believe this is the bottom of the bed and the original sides were held in with dowels
lastly here is my stash of silky oak but i think the board is normal oak
dimentions the bed is 1385mm wide, the foot end is 755mm high, the head is 1055mm high, the legs are 55mm square and from the floor to the top of the fixing plate is 380mm can anyone help me find the length needed for a standard bed? are there standard size beds?
now mum doesn't care if the new sides are pine as they wont be seen i don't have many tools like just the basic hand tools
can any one give me advice as how i should go about doing this as im kinda lost as how to start?happy turning

That's a beautiful bed! I don't think it needs a bed as such - just bed brackets to support a steel rail and slats - you can often buy the slats at op shops too.
Cheers, Richard

Cleaned up, sanded, reglued and finished that will look tremendous. A great find.
Do as Richard says an look for the steel rials to fit the brackets.

Just buy a bed frame from an op shop either steel or wood. This would be cheaper than the wood or steel to make one.
